A Word from Mike…

Colossians 3.23-24     23 Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, 24since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.

The days of summer were passing and the youth mission trip to Mexico was soon approaching. A late cancellation left us short a female sponsor for our trip. An older woman in our church approached me, and shared that even though she was “just a little old widow lady”, that she would like to go with us. After some conversation , and checking with her family, Helen joined us on that trip. We had visions of her helping in small ways, but repeatedly found her hoisting heavy items beyond what we would have thought possible. She kept a quick tempo as she worked. She may have joked that the quick tempo was to keep from falling down, but in truth she worked with a clear sense of purpose. Time was ticking, and she wanted to accomplish as much as possible in the time available.  At the end of each day we would climb on the roof of one of the buildings, sit under the stars, and reflect on the day. During one of these sessions, Helen thanked the youth for accepting her as a part of their group, and for making a life-long dream come true. She had always dreamed of going on a mission trip and thought the opportunity had passed.

Last week Helen passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. What a testimony to her faith that one of her life-long dreams was about giving and not receiving. In our studies of Paul and his journey’s we have seen his passionate quest for spreading the Good News and stabilizing the new identity of “church”. Life is a gift. Time is a gift. Grace is a gift. What do we want to accomplish for God’s kingdom with the time we have available?

Thanks for sharing the journey,

FCC Youth

Light a Candle for Children 2016
Prayer Vigil – Week #2

Light a candle for children marks a time in the year when we make a special effort to be intentional about praying and giving thanks for the children in our lives.  Last Sunday was the first Sunday in the five week prayer vigil for children.  In five weeks we will bring the prayer vigil to a close with the Children’s Sabbath and the Children’s Corner Birthday celebration!  By that time, our church will have its very own pumpkin patch!

Did you know a pumpkin can teach us how to pray for children?  As you turn a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern, you can pray these five prayers. This is week two.
So this week lets join together in the following prayer:

Week 2:
(Imagine giving eyes to a soon to be jack-o-lantern.)

Pray:  Lord, open the eyes of the children that they may see the wonders You have made.

Psalm 19:1  The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

Light A Candle For Children
Prayer Vigil – Week #2
 Thank You Notes:

We would like to thank the members for all their cards and prayers during the loss of my mother. It is great having a family like you. Here’s a funny story. My mother was cremated. While having the graveside service I was putting her remains in the ground and my glasses fell into the grave. I barely got my fingers on them. Two people asked what I was doing and if I was ok. I don’t know whether she wanted my glasses or for me to join her!  My sister that had the stoke is back in Las Vegas going to rehab. If you would still keep her in your prayers, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Paul & Shirley Niehoff

To a loving and caring Church Family,
Thank you for the card and beautiful flowers. We are very thankful. A special thank you to Becky Searcy for delivering them.

Bill & Robbie McGruder

Dear Church Family,
Thank you for all the cards, calls and prayers during my recent visits to Baylor Scott White in Temple, Texas. David and I have been truly blessed to have such prayer warriors on our side.

David & Vicki Richey
