A Word from Mike…

2 Timothy 3:14-15  But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, 15and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Thirty years ago this month I started serving my first church as the youth director in Monroe City, Missouri.  The job was connected with a field education class at Culver-Stockton College; quite an experience for an 18-year-old.  At the time, I was early in my true-faith journey and had no clue what I was doing!  The church had a small but amazing group of youth, some of who were also 18-years-old.  The experience of working in that church was an incredible blessing.

Looking back over 30 years of ministry, and my childhood, God granted me amazing relationships and leaders to follow.  In my memory, I can still hear my grandparent’s voices reading scripture, and can read favorite scriptures and words of encouragement in their own handwriting.  Both of my parents were very dedicated to the church and I can still remember hearing both of them singing hymns of the faith.  I remember the dedicated Sunday school teachers, lay people, college professors, youth, and clergy who have invested in me along the way, and taught me by (or through) example.

CWF, through Susie Howard, and others have been kind enough to give me “warm fuzzys” in this Ministerial Appreciation Month. While I am far from perfect in my own leadership, this congregation has continued to give me the type of support that helps me continue to learn and be strong in my faith. Thank you for being part of God’s gift to me.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

FCC Youth

A big word of thanks to Kristyn Reid for preparing the youth meeting last Sunday and for Hunter Birkhead’s leadership, as well.

TONIGHT we will have a special 6 p.m. meeting for parents in the storm room of the JCAC and the youth will have dinner as normal, provided by Bev Rubino. At 6:30 in the youth room, youth and parents will have a chance to interact with a candidate for your youth position for a time of questions and answers. We hope all youth and parents will be able to attend and help us in this important decision process.

See you there!

If you are interested in helping with the Wednesday
night Youth meal, please contact Beverly Rubino
at 426-2685 for details.  Thank you!

2017 Operating Budget

The congregation will be asked to approve the 2017 operating budget at the annual congregational meeting to be held before the second service on November 6th.  Copies of the budget are now available in the church entry, in the office, and on MyFCC for members desiring to review it before the meeting on November 6th.

Thanks to Michelle Holt and Cindy Schaefer we also have a beautiful and easily understood color narrative budget, which graphically portrays our ministries for all to see.  Be sure to tell Michelle and Cindy how much you appreciate the creative way they have described our ministry at MWC First Christian for 2017 and plan to attend our congregational meeting on November 6th.

We have sold over $3,500 in pumpkins so far! Whoohoo!! We have a resupply of pumpkins coming and they will be here Saturday, October 22nd at noon! Please come help unload our second and final truck for our First (hopefully annual) Pumpkin Patch!  Should be lots of fun!
See you this Saturday (10/22) at Noon!

Would you like an opportunity to contribute to the church’s piano fund and also have a chance to become the owner of a beautiful quilt? Then, take note of the latest CWF project:

Zola Lee Gaylor has donated a beautiful quilt to the CWF for the purpose of encouraging contributions to the church piano fund. Zola Lee pieced the quilt, and it was quilted by Virginia Mullins, a late member of our congregation.  It is a very colorful, regular-sized quilt. Contributions of $1.00 will give you one opportunity to become the owner of the quilt. Contributions of $5.00 will give you
6 opportunities to become the owner. Most importantly, every dollar donated will go toward the purchase of a new piano for the church.

If interested, contact a CWF member,
Dona Stanfill, or Jo Pettigrew.
