Welcome DUSTIN!

Yesterday the board approved the call of Dustin Parish to be our new Youth Pastor of Education and Outreach.  We are excited to be adding him as a member of our staff.  Our youth will have the opportunity to have an official welcoming celebration at this Wednesday during their normal youth time.  Parents are encouraged to come and greet Dustin during the 6-6:30 p.m. eating time.  As a young starving recent graduate from OU, I encourage parents and others to invite Dustin to eat in your home or to take him out for a meal.

How did we make contact with Dustin for this position?  Some “Awesome God” stories must be shared and this is one of them.  The Oklahoma Disciples regional office heard about Ashley Dean’s hard work on our pumpkin patch through her sister, Jennifer Galloway.  Jennifer recently was hired as an administrative assistant for the region and was asked to decorate their lobby with our pumpkins.  Being a good husband, Travis offered to help Jennifer transport the pumpkins and decorate.  Along the way, they saw a young woman whose car had a flat tire.  Being good Samaritans, Travis and Jennifer stopped to help.  The young woman happened to be dating a young man (Dustin) who had decided to follow a call into youth ministry.  Dustin arrived to help with the tire and Travis and Jennifer secured his information to be added as a candidate for our open position.  God works in mysterious ways and blesses people who seek to bless others!  We are very thankful for the role Ashley, Jennifer and Travis played in helping us make contact with Dustin.

Thanks for leading us by example,

FCC Youth

Annual Congregational Meeting
10:30 AM – November 6th

The congregation will be asked to approve the 2017 operating budget at the annual congregational meeting to be held at 10:30 AM, before the second service on November 6th.  Copies of the budget are now available in the church entry, in the office, and on MyFCC for members desiring to review it before the meeting on November 6th.

Thanks to Michelle Holt and Cindy Schaefer we also have a beautiful and easily understood color narrative budget, which graphically portrays our ministries for all to see.  Be sure to tell Michelle and Cindy how much you appreciate the creative way they have described our ministry at MWC First Christian for 2017 and plan to attend our congregational meeting on November 6th.

Thank you to everyone that helped in any manner at our first pumpkin patch! It was a lot of fun and a great success in many ways!

Please help yourself to any remaining pumpkins in the pumpkin patch area for FREE! While you are picking one or some up for yourself, consider taking one or some to someone that might also enjoy a pumpkin! This was meant to be a community outreach, so let’s come up with some fun ways to share the pumpkins that are remaining!  Also, if you notice any rotten pumpkins, do us a huge favor and haul one to your home dumpster for us!

Thanks again!!
Ashley Dean

Would you like an opportunity to contribute to the church’s piano fund and also have a chance to become the owner of a beautiful quilt? Then, take note of the latest CWF project:

Zola Lee Gaylor has donated a beautiful quilt to the CWF for the purpose of encouraging contributions to the church piano fund. Zola Lee pieced the quilt, and it was quilted by Virginia Mullins, a late member of our congregation.  It is a very colorful, regular-sized quilt. Contributions of $1.00 will give you one opportunity to become the owner of the quilt. Contributions of $5.00 will give you 6 opportunities to become the owner. Most importantly, every dollar donated will go toward the purchase of a new piano for the church.

If interested, contact a CWF member, Dona Stanfill, or Jo Pettigrew.

Christian Women’s Fellowship has begun a service project  to benefit the Men and Women at the VA Medical Center in OKC. CWF will collect personal items and monetary donations. Donated items can be placed in the collection box in the narthex. If writing a check, please make payable to CWF. Donations will be delivered on Veteran’s Day, November 11th. Below is a list of requested items. You can also pick up a copy of this list in the narthex or the church office.

Dear Church Family,

Jeanne loved First Christian Church of Midwest City and she cherished the many friendships she made over the years of her membership here.  One of the main reasons she enjoyed her time in this church was the way it takes care of its members.  That has been exemplified by the many acts of kindness shown to her family in our time of loss.  To all you who have expressed your love by words, cards, food, coming to the funeral home or her service, we say thank you.  Thanks to Mike and Les for a beautiful service and the ladies who prepared the meal after her service.  She would have appreciated all this so much.

Thank you again for your friendship and discipleship,The Wiseman, Christensen, Deaton Families
