A Word from Mike…

Luke 4.14-15    Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. 15He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.

In this passage of Luke we read of the start of the “professional” career of Jesus. He has recently been baptized, tempted by Satan in the wilderness and then starts off with the favor of everyone. Only 14 verses later the crowd switches from amazement and praise towards anger and rage. Whether you are in “professional” minister or take a leadership role in a church people tend to give lots of kudos and support. We commission our leaders, praise them for the willingness to serve and then the ministry for the year begins.

As we learn from the example of Jesus, ministry (and lay church leadership) is not always easy. This past weekend, we were finally able to have our lay leadership training. Church leaders make the sacrifice of time, energy and at times even their egos, as they strive to be the best leaders they can be. I encourage all of us to take the time to express thanks and to pray for our Elders, Deacons, Department Heads and Officers. We are blessed to have people who want to serve and put their faith into action!

Thanks for sharing the journey!
