A Word from Mike…

James 1.25     But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.

LIVING FOR JESUS was the title for this past Sunday’s sermon.  Certainly one of those “old favorite” hymns, the title has been deep in my mind over recent weeks.  Does LIVING FOR JESUS really get top billing status?  I live for sports.  I live for the tasks of the church.  I live for helping others.  I live for being liked.  I live for being part of a community.  I live for….

What does it mean to be LIVING FOR JESUS?  Matthew 11.20-24 was our focus for Ash Wednesday.  The passage parallels two groups of cities, those which witnessed most of Christ’s ministry against traditional “wicked” cities.  The cities that are scolded are the ones who are first hand witnesses but fail to respond.  Sometimes the church and those of us in it, take Christ for granted.  We are dedicated and involved, maybe so much so that we are living more for the tasks than really LIVING FOR JESUS.

Lent offers us a season of self-evaluation.  Maybe our deeper dedication needs to start day by day, if not hour by hour.  Regardless, I invite you to join me in being intentional in dedicating my Lent to LIVING FOR JESUS.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Mike

Youth Yak
Hello FCC!!!

Okay, who else is absolutely LOVING this beautiful weather?!  It’s amazing what some sunshine and some 60 degree days can do for the spirit.  I do hope that you’ve had some opportunity to be outside and enjoy this unexpected February blessing.  Yesterday I boldly proclaimed to the Youth and parents that winter was over and that we are done with the snow.  I was quickly told to hush…we’ll see.

Alright, just some quick updates on what is happening in the world of Youth and Children’s Ministries here at FCC-MWC…

As you came to church for Ash Wednesday or last Sunday’s worship service you may have noticed a table set up in the Narthex with a big sign that says, “Lent Activities For Home.” Throughout the season of Lent I will be putting out different resources and activities for you to take home and use to enhance your Lenten journey.  Feel free to help yourself to what is there and share with your friends and family.

This Sunday, February 21, our CYF and Chi Rho will meet at 4:00 p.m. (please note the time change).  We will be doing a “Faith in Film” night and will wrap up just before the Board Meeting which is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Our JYF (3rd through 5th Grade) will meet at their regularly scheduled 5:00 p.m. starting time.

On Sunday, February 28, our Children and their parents/grandparents are invited to stay after worship for an afternoon of pretzel making.  We will be exploring together what pretzels can teach us about prayer and Lent.  Lunch will be provided.

Our CYF and Chi Rho will meet this Wednesday, February 17, at 6:00 p.m.  We will be exploring together the Spiritual Discipline of Fasting.

Grace and Peace,

Aaron
