A Word from Mike…

Mark 14.24 He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for man.

What would 7 consistent days of 100% a Godly peace and harmony look like?  What would such a holy week look like?  While my philosophical mind could construct a scenario, my realistic mind cannot.  Maybe like you, I look towards far-away lands, our local setting and even my own home and find that I am yearning for peace.  Peace with others.  Peace with life stresses.  Peace with myself.  Peace with God.

Yesterday we celebrated Palm Sunday with a wonderful gift of Tom Jamison and the choir’s offering of music.  We celebrated our young people with a baked potato luncheon.  We celebrated our community with four new members.  So many reasons to be thankful.  Holy Week has truly begun!!

Yet, God’s Holy week is a blend of complications.  Palm Sunday – the triumphant entry to Jerusalem.  Maundy Thursday – washing feet, the “Last Supper”, betrayal.  Good Friday – mocking, crucifixion, death.  Holy Saturday – quietness, mourning, waiting, the “Great Sabbath.”  Then…and only after these days…Easter.

Seven days of peace and harmony does not appear to be God’s earthly plan.  I pray that we as a congregation can embrace all that this week has to offer.  I pray that we as a congregation can embrace Holy Week in a way where our Easter has the depth that such a celebration deserves.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Prayer Vigil Sign Up

One of the great ways to add to your Easter experience is to join us for our overnight prayer vigil following Maundy Thursday Services.  Each of you will have the chance to reserve an hour to pray.  There are still several spots available on the sign-up board.  If you are more comfortable doing 30 minutes, find a “prayer partner” who will split the hour with you.  There will be two prayer vigils taking place at the same time this year.  For those who do not wish to get out, you are invited to sign up for a time to pray at home.  For those who are interested in a different experience, you are invited to come to the church where SECURITY WILL BE PROVIDED THROUGH THE NIGHT.  The Worship Department will have experiences at the church available such as the Stations of the Cross, scripture readings, CD music to be played, our prayer list, a church directory so all of our members can be prayed for, communion, as well as an outline for prayer journaling.

Youth Yak

Hello FCC!!!

Happy Holy Week!  I pray that you are in good spirits as we prepare for this weekend of remembrance, contemplation, and celebration.  I am thankful to have the opportunity to share in these sacred days with you.

On behalf of the Youth Ministry of FCC-MWC I want to say THANK YOU to all who helped support our Youth during our Baked Potato Lunch.  We were a little short-staffed on Sunday due to Spring Break and this event could not have taken place if it were not for so many who stepped up to help make the day a success.  Please know that I appreciate you so very much.  THANK YOU as well to all who stayed to share in the day’s festivities and who contributed to the cause of helping to support our summer mission activities. Thanks to the generosity and selflessness of this congregation, it was a great day.

FCC YOUTH!  As a reminder we are having a LOCK-IN this Friday night!!!!  We will meet at the church at 7:00 p.m. and we will be here until 7:00 a.m Saturday morning.  Please let me know by Wednesday, 3/23 if you are planning on coming and if you are bringing any friends.

As a reminder, we will be having our Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, 3/26 at 10:00 a.m. I hope that everyone is planning on coming out and enjoying a morning of fun and fellowship as we make our final preparations for Easter Sunday.

Grace and Peace,

Thanks to all who have helped build the fund allowing our church to transport children to visit their mothers at Taft Correctional Facility. Last Thursday, March 17th, Rev. Mike Snell drove our church bus and Charla Hurt of Midwest Blvd Christian Church and Carol Hamilton helped supervise. We transported 34 children with the participation of Wildwood Christian Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The trip is made three times a year. This project is one of the services sponsored by the World Outreach Committee.

Dear Friends of First Christian,
Thank you so much for the cards, calls and offers of help during my recent surgery. And thanks also to Mike, Aaron and the Searcys for coming to visit me in the hospital even though not one was able to find me in my room…lots of tests! But one First Christian person did manage to have a face to face visiting time on the day I was waiting to come home. Former member who now lives in     Topeka, Debbie Richardson, was in town and we managed a nice long visit.
I appreciate our loving congregation of members old and new. We are all blessed to have each other.
