A Word from Mike…

2 Timothy 1.5     5I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you.

Being in ministry, I have been provided many precious memories and treasures from relationships with church members. While I have been blessed with a wonderful mother, apparently God felt like I was the type who needed SEVERAL wonderful mothers! God supplies our needs and does so in abundance!

Those who have been a motherly influence for me have taught me several lessons along the way.  Yes, the presence of food is always a wonderful thought, but there is something equally wonderful.  The numerous hugs after church and in the hallways, the questions of how my mom and dad are doing, the helpful advice and feedback show a sense of sincere connection and care. One of the great values of our Jewish background is the importance of hospitality. Hopefully our Christian generations follow that hospitality today.

Hugs, cards, thank you notes, a warm smile, a playful joke, kind words and simple presence go so far in being the glue that builds our congregational foundation. We have the opportunity to share that with others, sincerely, as a people who live out of the grace and the goodness of God. I pray that type of faith continues to dwell in all of the generations in our congregation, that we might be true reflections of our loving God.

Thanks for sharing the journey – Mike

Hello FCC!!!!

I pray that your family had a pleasant and meaningful Mother’s Day holiday. It sure was special to have a great day of worship last Sunday where we
dedicated two beautiful babies and celebrated the blessing of the women in our midst.  It is such a blessing to be among people who love so well.  I
continue to give thanks for the opportunity to do ministry alongside you.

We are now one month away from Vacation Bible School and I hope that you have made plans to bring kids to participate in what will be an incredibly amazing and God-filled week here at First Christian Church.  Our theme for this year is, “Oh The Places God Goes” and I am so excited to see what God does through this week.  As a reminder, Vacation Bible School will take place here at FCC on June 6-10 from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m..

Our CYF and Chi Rho youth will meet this Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. to continue working on Youth Sunday.

Grace and Peace,

“Pray always and do not lose heart.”  Luke 18.1

Regional Minister, Pamela Holt, is encouraging us to respond in support of New Covenant Christian Church after they were vandalized and burglarized this week.  One of the acts of vandalism was spray painting the word “Ghost” in several areas of the church, including in their sanctuary.  This was discovered a short number of hours before hosting a funeral for a church member who had committed suicide.  When I was in Arkansas, our church was broken into and burglarized twice.  Some things of sentimental value can never be replaced. However, in the midst of such times, we have the opportunity to stand with our fellow churches and say “we are invested in you and your future.”

The Week of Compassion is supporting New Covenant with a solidarity grant.  To expedite the process, the region is suggesting those who wish to give financially to New Covenant to do so directly.  If you wish to contribute to this solidarity grant please address the check to:  New Covenant Christian Church, 12000 N. Rockwell Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73162.  In the memo portion of the church please write “Disciple Solidarity.”

This is our opportunity to share our journey with other Disciples.
Thanks,  Mike

Help “Speak the Truth by filling out our first tri-annual congregational survey either by picking up the form in the church office or clicking on “Forms/Tri-annual Congregational Survey” on your MyFCC account. It’s designed to apprise our ministers and church leadership how effectively they are achieving the goals for our church ministry. Your feedback is vital in this effort, will be kept confidential, and shape next year’s ministry goals. After the data is compiled, all surveys will be destroyed. Please contact Cindy Schaefer if you have any questions.

Please be in prayer for this most important event in the life of First Christian.

We will begin collecting your Pledge Cards at both worship services on Sunday, May 15th when our Board Chair Randy Ross will give the offertory and in the ensuing weeks.
