Hello FCC!!

This Sunday, May 22, is Youth Sunday!  Over the course of the last several weeks, our Youth Group has been hard at work planning, organizing, and preparing what promises to be a wonderful morning of worship and celebration.  I am so very proud of the work that our Youth have put into ensuring that what we do on Sunday will be an amazing offering to God. I am confident that you will be as well.

It bears noting that Youth Sunday is not just a day for our kids to change up the order of worship or to add different songs into the regular repertoire. While the creative liberty that does accompany Youth Sunday is kind of fun, there are so many more reason why Youth Sunday is important. It is an opportunity for our Youth to learn about the elements of worship, to discuss and consider what constitutes worship, to explore how they may use their gifts to glorify God, to find their voice and perhaps their place in the church, and to demonstrate all that they have learned and how we have grown together in the past year.

The theme for Youth Sunday 2016 is “Justice, Kindness, Humility” and will be using Micah 6:6-8 as the scriptural basis for the day.  I do hope that you will make plans to be present in worship at either 8:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m.  I am super proud of our Youth and I know you will be as well.

Thank you for all you do to support the work of our Youth Ministry.

Grace and Peace

“Pray always and do not lose heart.”  Luke 18.1

Regional Minister, Pamela Holt, is encouraging us to respond in support of New Covenant Christian Church after they were vandalized and burglarized this week.  One of the acts of vandalism was spray painting the word “Ghost” in several areas of the church, including in their sanctuary.  This was discovered a short number of hours before hosting a funeral for a church member who had committed suicide.  When I was in Arkansas, our church was broken into and burglarized twice.  Some things of sentimental value can never be replaced. However, in the midst of such times, we have the opportunity to stand with our fellow churches and say “we are invested in you and your future.”

The Week of Compassion is supporting New Covenant with a solidarity grant.  To expedite the process, the region is suggesting those who wish to give financially to New Covenant to do so directly.  If you wish to contribute to this solidarity grant please address the check to:  New Covenant Christian Church, 12000 N. Rockwell Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73162.  In the memo portion of the church please write “Disciple Solidarity.”

This is our opportunity to share our journey with other Disciples.
Thanks,  Mike

Help “Speak the Truth by filling out our first tri-annual congregational survey either by picking up the form in the church office or clicking on “Forms/Tri-annual Congregational Survey” on your MyFCC account. It’s designed to apprise our ministers and church leadership how effectively they are achieving the goals for our church ministry. Your feedback is vital in this effort, will be kept confidential, and shape next year’s ministry goals. After the data is compiled, all surveys will be destroyed. Please contact Cindy Schaefer if you have any questions.

Carol Hamilton for Clarence Barber’s birthday

Thank you for the kind expressions of sympathy you have shown us all on the passing of our father/grandfather. We appreciate your prayers, cards, hugs, food and attendance at his life celebration. Each of these things has been such a great support for our family. It is always nice to have a caring church community, but it is especially reassuring during times of grief.

Much Love,
Craig, Mitsy, Elyse and Cole
