A Word from Mike…

Acts 2.46-47    46Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home* and ate their food with glad and generous* hearts, 47praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

In the past 36 months (3 Years) we have had 48 join our church. In the previous three years 34 joined. Such growth has many implications, both good and challenging. In these past six years of growth I believe God is responsible for adding to our number and I also believe God is adding to our responsibility. The challenge is for our church to make sure the spiritual “meat” we offer is of high quality. While I feel that we are offering good quality now, the difficult part is being consistent and continually raising the bar. Walter Brueggeman, Christian scholar and theologian, has stated that the early church “Did not devote themselves to evangelism, but to preaching and fellowship, to worship and acts of caring.” This is what moves God to bless church growth.

Please do not misunderstand, evangelism is important and an area where we Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) tend to place to little emphasis. Matthew 28.19 challenges us to GO and make disciples among all nations. If we are going to continue to grow, we must GO and let our friends and acquaintances know we have a strong and growing congregation. These groups need to know we are a LIVING church, striving for a quality and active spiritual framework. Also, I believe the YOU are called to be a part of this growth process and that your gifts help us to be all God has created us to be as a congregation. Don’t put a stop sign up to God for what God is calling you to share. Come celebrate with us in worship, in communion, in praising God and reaching out in goodwill to all of God’s creation.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Hello FCC!!!!

It was so good to be back with you last Sunday!  Thank you for all your questions and affirmations regarding our Mission Trip to Denver.  I hope that you were able to snag a few of our youth and ask them about their experiences.  I’m sure we will be telling stories for months.

I invite you to be in prayer for our Chi Rho and CYF students who are at camp this week. As you’ve heard me say before, I believe very strongly that church camp changes lives.  I am so thankful that our Region makes these opportunities available and that we are a congregation that supports the camp program so strongly.

Due to the fact that a whole bunch of our youth are either at camp or out of town, we are cancelling our regularly scheduled Wednesday night gathering.  HOWEVER I know there are still some who are in town so I am working on putting together some time at the Reno Swim and Slide. Day and Time will be worked out.

Grace and Peace

Dear First Christian Church of Midwest City,
Thank you for your generous donation to the Ecuador Earthquake
Appeal. The magnitude 7.8 earthquake has caused widespread damage and displaced up to 73,000 people from their homes. Your gift will help with immediate relief assistance.

Your gift will go to ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together) partners working in Ecuador to provide immediate relief. At the end of April they distributed 360 water filter systems to families in Montecristi and are working to improve access to safe water and sanitation for 4,000
families. Without safe water, Ecuador risks further outbreaks of diseases like Zika and malaria.

ACT Alliance will also distribute food kits to 6,000 families and non-food items like kitchen equipment to 4,000. Local members will help with
temporary shelter and train local people to provide psychosocial support within their communities.

Your gift will mean our partners can get vital supplies to families in need. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Pauline McKay – National Director
