A Word from Mike…

John 11.32-35
When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. 34He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” 35Jesus began to weep.

Another week, another shooting that involves citizens and law enforcement. I have no doubt that God weeps at the violence and violence that leads to the loss of life that takes place in our world. The statement is true that “Black Lives Matter” and it is important for us to remember “All Lives Matter.” There is no God breathed life that doesn’t matter.

We can complain, we can speak ill of a segment of society or we can strive to be people that help lift up the value of life. How have you helped add value to someone’s life today? Did you give anyone a compliment? Did you tell a friend how much they meant to you? Did you thank a member of law enforcement for their service? Did you pray for the beggar on the street corner?

After Jesus wept, he responded with life giving action. Maybe we can’t give life in the same way, but we have the power of adding to the life value of one another. We are in all of “this” together. One of the ways we were reminded of this was through the blessing of those who served so well on Laity Sunday. We are an amazingly wonderful and gifted community. Let us be a community that uses what God has given to make this world a better place.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Hello FCC!!!!

THANK YOU to all of those who said yes to the invitation to use your gifts to glorify God in worship this past Sunday.  It was such a blessing for me to have the opportunity to worship alongside you in a different manner and to celebrate the gifts and passions of so many in this wonderful congregation. On a personal note, I want to say THANK YOU for not only permitting, but celebrating the fact that my son Zachary chose to worship with us during First Service as opposed to retreating to the nursery.  It was a blessing for me to have the opportunity to worship and commune alongside my son.  I am grateful that we are a congregation that celebrates the young children among us.

FCC-MWC YOUTH!!!  We will gather on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. for Youth Group.  I cannot wait to see your faces and discover what cool things God will do with us and through us this week.  Bring a friend (or 4)!!

Please note that we are still seeking volunteers to help out with Wednesday evening meals.  If you can bless us in this way, please contact the church office.

Subject: Mobile Meals Contributions

Effective immediately, contributions designated to “Local Mobile Meals” will be applied to our local program. Contributions designated to Mobile Meals will be forwarded for investment in our Mobile Meals endowment currently established at the Christian Church Foundation. Interest income from this endowment earns far higher rates than our local bank account providing strategic financial security fo our local program. When requested by the local Mobile Meals Director, transfer of Mobile Meals Endowment funds will be applied to current and future Local Mobile Meals program.

The news for schools in Oklahoma has been bleak.  We have an opportunity to help right here in Eastern Oklahoma County.  Would you consider picking up some school supplies for kids that cannot afford them?  Just bring them to church and leave in the box in the Narthex.  Outreach will deliver them to area schools. Teachers have specifically requested 1″ & 2″ binders, and no Roseart brand please. Collections will be on-going thru August 14th.
