A Word from Mike…

This week I have been blessed to have some vacation time back in Arkansas. Being here has been a good reminder how lucky I am to have such good friends in Arkansas and such fabulous people in my life in Midwest City. Most people don’t know what it is to work in a church, where immediately the majority of the people care about your well-being.  Truly it is an honor to work with our congregation and to serve God in Oklahoma.

There are plenty of negatives in the world, but I am blessed to have so many good things in my life, like the people of our church.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Hello FCC!!!!

As we prepare to close out the month of July I find myself giving thanks for the amazing God-stuff that has taken place with our youth group over the course of this summer.  While I know that we still have a few weeks left before school starts, I have started reflecting back on what a summer it has been.  Our mission trip to Denver was incredible, our kids who had an opportunity to attend camp had their faith strengthened and their relationships with fellow Disciples renewed.  Even as our schedule has been a little “hit or miss” due to everything that happens over the summer months we have continued to experience lively, well-attended youth group gatherings. We’ve got a really good thing going on here, church.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to minister alongside such an AMAZING group of young people.

We recently began two new topics of study which have proven to be fodder for some great conversation.  On Wednesdays, we are doing a “Who/What/Where?” study of the basics of what it is we proclaim to believe.  Over the last couple of weeks we have talked about Heaven and God and this week we will be looking at the Holy Spirit.  Thanks to the “Judgement-Free-Zone” that we have created in our youth group, the questions and conversation have been awesome. During the Sunday school hour we are doing, “Bible Basics,” where we have looked at the history and origin of scripture, what types of things we find in the Bible, and how we should begin reading scripture.  The youth really seem to have latched on to this and we will continue this course of study until the end of August.

THANK YOU to those who have contributed to the cause of feeding our Youth on Wednesday nights.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:  Beginning this Wednesday, July 27, our INCOMING SIXTH GRADERS are invited to begin attending Wednesday evening Youth Group.  If there are any questions about this, please let me know.

Grace and Peace

The news for schools in Oklahoma has been bleak.  We have an opportunity to help right here in Eastern Oklahoma County.  Would you consider picking up some school supplies for kids that cannot afford them?  Just bring them to church and leave in the box in the Narthex.  Outreach will deliver them to area schools. Teachers have specifically requested 1″ & 2″ binders, and no Roseart brand please. There is also a need for boxes of Kleenex, Clorox wipes, new socks and underwear in addition to the traditional school supplies.

Collections will be on-going thru August 14th.

Christmas in July

What are some ways I can help?

· Pray the families have a change in their situation

· Give $ to CFO

· Clean out gently used toys, books, clothes and games for CFO

· Purchase and donate items to be placed in the parent gift room such as perfume, flashlights, small tools, or  toiletries

Preparing for this huge event takes an enormous amount of manpower, and we invite anyone who is interested to participate.

To get involved, contact anyone on the
World Outreach Committee:

Mitsy Martin-Davis, Beverly Bonnewell, Nancy Graham,
Jason Updegraff, Leah Wakely, Jo Pettigrew, or Elyse Davis

First Christian Church Members:
Due to the generosity of former church members, our church has been bequeathed 18 spaces in Memorial Park, OKC and 2 spaces in Arlington Cemeteries, MWC. If you know of anyone interested in purchasing them, please contact Cindy Shaaefer. Pamphlets containing information with pictures of the sites are in the narthex.

Volunteers still needed to provide Wednesday night meals for our youth. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex. You may also contact Aaron or the church office.  Thank you!

Reminding the Choir…

Just want to remind the Chancel Choir in case you haven’t done it, yet, to please, have your robe dry-cleaned to begin the new choir season afresh. We will be singing again soon!   Thank you!
