Thank you for your giving!

A Word from Mike…

Acts 4.36-5.13    There was a Levite, a native of Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”). 37He sold a field that belonged to him, then brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

5.1     But a man named Ananias, with the consent of his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property; 2with his wife’s knowledge, he kept back some of the proceeds, and brought only a part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3“Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land?

In the oddity of this scripture both Ananias and Sapphira soon fall dead, having lied to God, the Holy Spirit and Peter. One of the important things to remember when analyzing this text is that the story takes place in the early formation of the church. A foundation is being taught and built for the immediate survival of the church and for future generations of the church. GOD IS TEACHING THE CHURCH, BUT WILL THE CHURCH LISTEN? We can always find an excuse for why we need to give less in the year ahead, but can we truly find an excuse from withholding from God?

Bryan Searcy, the stewardship department and our lay steward “witnesses” did an excellent job leading us in the stewardship campaign. Our response to a stewardship campaign is not to ask why the church is “always asking for money”, but instead asking how our financial giving is being used for the glory of God. 2016 has been a year of transition as we continue to build a budget based on true dollars. Thanks to the leaders of our church, our spending has been trimmed and our ministry has expanded. Just think of how much more our ministry can grow when we all
participate without holding back. Estimate of giving cards may be turned in again this Sunday, so it is not too late to support our ministry for the year ahead.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Here are some pictures from Aaron’s Farewell Reception this past Sunday. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. We appreciate the influence that Aaron and his ministry had on the students and families here at First Christian Church!

May the Lord continue to bless Aaron, Debra, Zachary & Joshua!
