A Word from Mike…

2 Corinthians 1.3-4     Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, 4who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.

The season of Lent and Eastertide is one that puts death and suffering squarely in front of us.  As a preacher, there are times when I know several people in our church are mourning, and I would rather avoid the topic of death and suffering.  As I was once told, “Remember Mike, Easter is a day for family.”  While I don’t completely disagree, I hope it is a day FOR thankfulness, to God and Jesus, that is spent WITH family, friends, or in joyful reflection.

Death is not an easy topic.  Knowing that Christ died for us may give us comfort, but this knowledge does not eliminate our own grief when loved ones die.  However, that knowledge is a part of what consoles us; it gives us confidence as we console one another.  One of the most incredible parts of the passion narrative is that Jesus takes time to speak words of consolation: to the repentant sinner on the cross, to his mother, and to Peter.  What compassion!

As we walk these days of Eastertide together, I encourage each of us to be intentional in the ways we console one another, and in the ways we offer compassion to the world.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

Youth Potato Luncheon
This Sunday, April 15th

Our annual fundraiser for the Summer Mission trip is scheduled for this Sunday, the 15th, after the second service of church. This is an event that is fully put on by our Youth. You can expect to hear some stories from our mission trip last year and a slide show with a lot of the pictures of our trip! Any donation is welcome, and the potatoes will be yummy. We are going to have a few more sweet potatoes this year based on the popularity from last year, so there is something for everyone! Mission trips are always such a bonding experience for our group, and they provide a great opportunity for our students to grow spiritually. If you are interested in making a dessert please reach out to Bev Rubino after Tuesday this week. We will need all hands on deck for this event. We ask that Students and volunteers be here by 8 a.m. to assist with preparations. The event will begin after second service in the JCAC
