A Word from Mike…

Last week, I was unable to watch the memorial service for Barbara Bush; so I followed up after the service online.  I watched parts of the service, read and saw remembrances of her life, and enjoyed the reflections that were shared.  Also, I appreciated being reminded of her dedication to her faith.

Having spent time in Houston, and working with the Houston Astros, I have fond memories of a special tradition tied to George and Barbara Bush.  They would often attend Astros games, and when they were attending a game, the last couple to appear on the kiss cam would always be the Bushes.  Of course, they would smile, kiss, and the crowd would cheer with wild enthusiasm.

By now, many of you may have seen the photo of the living former Presidents and First Ladies taken after the memorial service.  Melania Trump attended the service, representing the Trumps.  One article I read commented on how nice it was seeing people who had been at such odds politically, interacting so kindly, and with smiles.  Another article commented on how current First Lady Melania Trump smiled too much at the occasion.  Being First Lady is a tough job and exposes one to unfair scrutiny.

I found this week to be a good reminder, to not only pray for our political representatives of all parties, but to also pray for their families.  Leadership is a challenging role, and a challenging call.  May God bless them and draw them closer to God’s understanding.

Thanks for sharing the journey,
