A Word From Mike…

John 20.19-22    When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’22When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.

This passage from Mark was our cornerstone scripture this past Sunday. I wanted to share this again today, mainly for those who were unable to attend.  This passage highlights four key points for the disciples, and for us, in our faith journey.

Peace – Jesus says “Peace be with you” to the disciples twice. Once in the shock of an moment and a second time for the timeframe of the future.

Proof – In the same ways we can look to history and scripture as helps of proof, Jesus gave the disciples proof by showing them his wounds.

Purpose – Do you ever feel like your life lacks purpose? Jesus clarifies our true purpose in life.  To accept and act upon our call to be “sent.”

Power – When Jesus breathed on the disciples it was that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit.

You and I share this calling together.  The trust that God gives in us to live out of this calling is both intimidating and exciting.  Thankfully, we have the opportunity to walk side by side as we strive for such a lofty goal.

Thanks for sharing the journey!

Opportunity For Our
Church Veterans & Veterans Spouses

Pete Tucker is one who is setting a wonderful example for us of what it is to do ministry beyond our church walls. Each week Pete travels to Norman to help veterans and their spouses to accurately review and receive their VA disability benefits. He volunteers his services as part of a non-profit veteran’s organization, The Dale K. Graham Veterans Foundation. Pete has also worked to help multiple members of our church who unknowingly were not receiving their full benefits. These financial benefits are helpful to the veterans and of equal importance, to their families.

Pete will be in our church on Wednesday mornings from 9-11 AM to meet with veterans and spouses of veterans on a first come first serve basis. We are blessed and fortunate to have him offering this opportunity for our veterans.

Please be sure to bring your DD-214.

Thank you to everyone who attended the
