A Word from Mike…

Titus 3.4-5     But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,5he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

As my Easter day was coming to a close I had a chance to see a conversation between some old college fraternity brothers online.  One made a joke that church attendance had increased by 100% that morning!  Another shared that he had finally given up being a Christer (combination of Christmas and Easter) attender.  Passing time reading other places online it was not hard to find other tongue-in-cheek comments about people who only come to church at Christmas and Easter.

What are we to think or say about such “Christians”?

How about nothing?  How about thanking God that WE have another opportunity to welcome them into an experience of worship? How about being intentional in making sure they feel not overwhelmed with jokes of “glad you still know how to get here jokes” and instead make sure they feel warmly welcomed?  Certainly we wouldn’t want to make quick assumptions.  Who knows, they might have a more dedicated Christian life during the week that we do!

Many of you welcome others well and I am thankful for your attitude.  Even if this is a “preaching to the choir”, I found it a good message for me to be reminded of as well.

He is risen! He is risen indeed!  That is a joy worth sharing as many times as we are able!

Thanks for sharing the journey,
Mike
