Cantata Sunday, December 17

Combined Worship Service
at 10:00 am

The time has come again!  The Chancel Choir would like to formally invite you to join us for our annual Christmas Cantata service.  In all the excitement and anticipation of the Advent season, we cannot think of a better way to come together in worship than through the gift of music.

This year, we will be presenting a performance of Eugene Butler’s “Emmanuel.”  Eugene Butler, a well-known 20th century composer with over 700 published works, holds degrees from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory.

In this cantata, he skillfully combines the popular advent tune “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” with traditional scriptures, folk themes, original melodies, and even a Bach Chorale, to construct a tasteful and meaningful representation of the story of the season: The birth of Jesus.

Our Chancel Choir will be joined by friends from the University of Oklahoma, including Bass-Baritone Dorian McCall and Soprano Nina Whyte.  Further, Keegan Josephson, a dear friend and wonderful Tenor, will be sharing his gifts with us.  We believe that the occasion will provide you all with the opportunity to engage in the Christmas narrative, and will bring you inspiration for the rest of the season.  We do hope that you will join us!

FCC Youth

On Wednesday Evening, December 13th, We will be loading up and taking the Youth Group to watch “The Star” at Harkins in Bricktown. The movie starts at 6:10, so will load the bus up and head out at 5:15 p.m. The movie is 1 hour and 26 minutes long, so that should put us back at the church around 8:15. I will have the students update the parents via cell phone when we head back to the church. If you would like to drop your student off or pick them up from the movies, that is fine as long as you let Dustin know beforehand.

On Sunday Evening, December 17th, We will not be having Sunday Evening Youth

Youth Christmas Event:

The Youth Group will be meeting at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 22nd for their Christmas event. There will be a gift exchange, and tacky Christmas sweater competition! The event will be ending at midnight, and Dustin can take your child home in the church bus if need be.

Youth Committee:

Hello all, I am interested in building up a team of adult volunteers to help on Wednesday nights, Sunday Mornings and Sunday Evenings. If you are interested in hanging out
during Youth Group, leading Sunday school, or leading a home group on Sunday
evenings, please do not hesitate to let me know!

If you know anyone who might be interested in joining us,
please give me a call! I would love to reach out to them!

Our “Emergency Food Kits” have been a big success for the last two years because of the love and generosity of the people in our Church Family. Now that winter is approaching, we are asking for your help once again. In order that none of our clients go without food, because we are unable to deliver du to bad weather, we will be preparing “Emergency Food Kits” again this year. These kits will consist of non-perishable food items for two to three meals. We have 53 clients, 13 of those clients are diabetic. Please help us with these kits by donating some of the items below.

We will be collecting food items starting Dec 17 through Dec 31. There will be a collection box in the Narthex marked “Mobile Meals Emergency Food Kits”.

Items needed are: Canned Soups, canned ravioli, canned meats (i.e. tuna, chicken, ham), Cup ‘O’ Noodles, microwaveable macaroni and cheese cups, packaged peanut butter or cheese crackers, fruit cups, pudding cups, individually packaged cookies, Ensure, or any non-perishable food item that can be eaten cold or easily heated. Please remember some of the desserts need to be sugar free for our diabetic clients.

Your donations will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Dottie Tucker at 610-6959 or 919-4589 (cell).

Thank You Notes…

FCC Family & Friends,

My sincere thanks to our church staff for the beautiful picture that will soon be hanging in the entry way at our home. Lillian and I have both read the thank you cards which I receivedSunday and I would like to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to everyone especially your support of saying your thanks for the past twelve years of service. Just as we all tell the military personnel “thank you for your service” you were very appreciative of telling me “thank you for your 12 years of service.” I want to express my thanks for the gifts I received.

Someone asked me recently how many times have I “retired” since I completed 28 years of military service and retired in 1983. After we did some counting I decided I had worked for five different companies either as full time or part time service. The time periods ranged from one year, to five years, to another five years with a different company, to nine years with number four company and now twelve years with number five— First Christian Church and this one was the most satisfying and pleasurable of all the five.

– Lyle Fry

A heartfelt thank you for all the prayers, cards, and visits during my recent surgery. A special thank you to Susie Howard and Barbara Brewer for the food they brought to our home; to Carol Adams and Susie Howard for taking over Mobile Meals for me; and to Mike Snell for being there with my family on the day of my surgery. I feel blessed to be a part of this Church Family.

– Dottie Tucker

Thank you for the beautiful flowers. Your prayers and kindness to Bill and me are truly appreciated. Have a Blessed Christmas.
