A Word From Dustin…

John 10: 10     The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.
I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

If you were here this past Sunday, you heard that this was our themed Bible verse for the Youth mission trip to Kansas City. The whole goal for our week was to show “The Good Life” that Jesus brings when we choose to follow Him. Now, we all know that following Jesus is not always all sunshine and rainbows. However, the focus was really to show the unselfish love that Christ calls us to show the poor, oppressed, and the marginalized.

The students did such a great job serving the Kansas City, MO community (or KCMO as they like to call it there) Our students were able to serve in a variety of different communities. Two specific places that we based out of are “The Center for the Good Shepherd (CGS), and The Tracy Community Garden. At CGS, the students were able to interact with clients that had mental handicaps, and they were able to play games, talk, listen and eat lunch! Tracy Garden is in operation by a man named Marty. Marty was very passionate, and he really wanted to teach our students about what he does. I would describe him as a community garden mad scientist with his own method of producing “bio char” for the soil in the garden. The community garden is in use to help with soup kitchens and food shelters in the area.

We also were able to serve at several organization, soup kitchens, and churches during the afternoon. In those places, we were able to serve a homeless community that needed the love and compassion that we learned about in John 10:10. We even learned how to weave sleeping mats together for homeless people by using over 1,000 plastic bags! It really was a fantastic week for our youth and adult sponsors. I genuinely enjoyed getting to serve alongside everyone and watch them all grow! I encourage you all not to hesitate about asking our students about all the experiences they enjoyed. There really are too many to write down in this little article.

Thanks for sharing the journey,

FCC Youth

During this year’s CYF Conference, Logan Davis and Matt Moler were inducted into the Regional Youth Council. RYC is the Region’s ‘youth group’, modeling participation and leadership in their local youth group, congregation, and larger community. RYC is a group of juniors and seniors alongside adults that plan and lead the gathering of youth groups for retreats each year and they often help at CYF Camp.  RYC spends time to vision the future of youth gatherings in our Region.

Way to lead by example Logan & Matt!

Summer is a great time to get involved in our group!

If you know anyone who might be interested in joining us,
please give me a call! I would love to reach out to them!
