A Word From Mike…

Acts 1.21-23     So one of the men who have accompanied us throughout the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection.’ 23So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.

This passage from Acts displays multiple layers of transition for the disciples.  The layers of transition include selecting who will fill the vacated role of Judas and the transition to ministry without the human Christ beside them.

Change presents a challenge.  The disciples follow the normal casting of lots and Matthias is chosen to join the inner circle of 12.  How will Matthias “fit”?  There will be an adjustment period for the “team” of the disciples.

Change presents a challenge.  God’s plan for how THE MESSAGE is to spread is going to change in a radical way and by a radical experience.  The Holy Spirit is about to arrive, there will be speaking in tongues, Peter will preach an inspired word and the CHURCH will be born anew.

I am one who believes that the nature of God is consistent and doesn’t not change.  However, sometimes God is presented in ways that implies that God is not about change.  Based on my understanding of scripture and experience of faith, God is VERY much about and present within change.  Take our church for example, in our 75 years there have been many changes, but God still actively involved in our church!  We continue to gain new members, to witness baptisms and to celebrate God’s word.  The world around us may change in different ways but the essentials remain a part of our foundation.  GOD IS ALIVE AND WELL!

Come and celebrate the living God in our Pentecost service this Sunday!

Thanks for sharing the journey,
Mike

Can You Help With A Can?

The Mid-Del Food Pantry is in need of CANS – of food, that is.

The food pantry is down to some of the very last cans of food needed to provide for the needy. If you can help meet this need, just bring your canned goods to the narthex of the church anytime between now and May 20. Anything would be welcome, but the pantry currently has enough corn and green beans. So, other canned vegetables, canned meat, canned fruit, and canned soup will be very much appreciated.

Thank you for supporting the Mid-Del Food Pantry!

CWF Spring Project

The CWF will continue collecting donations for the Mabel Bassett Women’s Correctional Center, through the month of May.
The need is great for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap,
lotion, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, women’s hygiene products, magazines, books, puzzle books, etc.

Thank you for your support.
Lenora Greffin, CWF Service Chairman
