A Word From Mike…

Acts 2.1-6   The Coming of the Holy Spirit
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. 5 Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each.

Was this past weekend exciting for you?!? Yes, we celebrated our graduates and appropriately so.  Yes, Hunter and Neil blessed us with their talents during the recital.   Those are things worthy of excitement.

Were you also excited about celebrating the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives?

The Gospel of John gives this account of the Holy Spirit from Jesus (John 14.12) “Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.”  Greater works than Jesus?

We pray to God.  We have Christ as our advocate and pray in his name.  We have this amazing gift in the presence of the Holy Spirit, so in your prayers this week I encourage you to take time to give thanks.

Here are some scripture passages on the Holy Spirit that might be of help:

Acts 2.36-42, Romans 8.26, Isaiah 11.2, John 16.12-15, John 14.26

Galatians 5.22-23, John 14.15-17, 2 Corinthians 3.17

Thanks for sharing the journey,
Mike

S.O.A.R. Trip on Thursday, June 21, Needs a Helper

Because the summer S.O.A.R. trip will be taking young people to visit their mothers at Taft Prison in eastern Oklahoma has been set for June 21, the churches in northeastern Oklahoma City that usually participate in the trip will be using their vans to attend their denomination’s state convention. Each vehicle on these journeys must have a driver and at least one female sponsor. Our church bus is going, and for the first time, the van from Nicoma Park Christian Church will participate. They have a driver, but we need one more sponsor to ride in that van. Carol Hamilton will go for our bus. If you think you might be able to join in helping with this trip, call Carol Hamilton, 732-4336. We leave Greater New Zion Baptist Church, 1005 NW 28th Street between6 and 6:30 am and return to Oklahoma City by about 4 pm.
