| FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH (Disciples of Christ) 11950 East Reno Ave Midwest City, OK 73130 405-769-2717 A Pastor’s Perspective… As we experience the distancing caused by a global pandemic, I am reminded of the good that can come when we all come together to do our part. This experience has lead us in a totally different direction from where we expected to be. We couldn’t have comprehended as we celebrated the new year on January 1 that we would be unable to gather here at FCC to celebrate Holy Week. There was not a thought that we would be experiencing worship together online. What a difference a few months can make. Yet, we are able to continue on. There are faithful people working to make sure that people who rely on Mobile Meals each day get to eat. Thanks to Dottie Tucker and her crew for feeding those in need. Our administrative assistant, Nancy Harkey, continues to keep us connected and informed. Our church treasurer, Dean Holt, works with our accountant to make sure bills are paid in a timely fashion. John Northcutt, the Financial Coordinator, continues to make the weekly bank deposits. Our music department makes our worship happen, and Mark Johnson has recorded and edited our online worship experiences. The Mid-Del Food Pantry continues to operate. Our elders are connecting with their family groups, and others are calling to check on friends, family, and neighbors. People are praying for one another. Isaiah 43:2 reminds us that we are not alone. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” Some translations state “When you pass through DEEP waters I will be with you.” We are traveling through deep waters now, but deep waters are not new to us. We’ve been through them before, and we will go through them again. The bottom line here is a promise that no matter what, we don’t travel through the waters of life alone. In times like these, we once again have an opportunity to travel these waters together. One day we will be able to join together. What a great day that will be! Until then, we will continue to be church where we are. Reaching out (safely) to others through technology and other means to help others realize they too are recipients of the Isaiah 43 promise that no matter what, they are not alone!
