A Pastor’s Perspective

We last gathered together to worship in our building on March 15.  Since then, we have experienced worship online on our YouTube channel.  First, we recorded our services, and for the past two Sundays, we have live streamed.  It certainly has been an interesting couple of months!

One of the big questions we have been asking is “When will we gather together again?”  Last week we held a Zoom meeting with church leaders and to discuss that very question.  The result of our conversation was this:

We are preparing for returning to in-person worship on Sunday, July 5th.  We will return to two services and continue our live stream on Sunday mornings.  Although we will gather again, our experience for in person worship will be different.   As before, we will follow CDC guidelines by refraining from hugs and handshakes.  We will also observe 6 foot social distancing.  Attendees will be expected to have their temperature taken, answer a few health questions, and wear masks.  Hand sanitizer will be available.  We will have to limit the number of worshipers in our services.

More information will be available after our follow up meeting on June 18, and our return will depend on the prevalence of COVID-19 in our community.  Our goal is to be back together in worship and be safe and healthy.

As we move forward into a new and different future, may God grant us wisdom to discern between our wanting to resume worship together and the necessary actions we need to take to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Peace!
Gary

YOUTH NEWS…

The youth group is planning a local mission trip at the beginning of July. With the effects of the  pandemic we have to plan with the knowledge that we might have to cancel at the last minute. This trip is very important to our youth group, but that does not outweigh the importance of protecting the health of our kid’s & their families. If we are able to go, this will be a spiritual growth camping trip. This trip is intended to help the kids find new ways to recognize God’s love and the love of others. As these students quiet themselves through daily devotionals and have time to experience nature in various ways, it is our hope that they will encounter the reality of God’s love for them.

Do you have life jackets or tents that we can borrow?

Because of the health situation we will be needing to borrow tents. We will not be putting several kids in one tent as we might do under different circumstances. If you would be willing to loan us your tent we will sanitize it and air it out before returning it to you. We could also use a shade tent or two and would greatly appreciate anyone willing to share.

We also need to borrow some life jackets. We have a few but I would like for each student to have one life jacket that they use all week. I think this will be safer for health reasons. I will need the life jackets and tents at church no later than Sunday, 6/28/20. Please contact Shauna Becker or the church office if you have a life jacket or tent we can use.

If you are a fisherman and would like to teach some fishing basics to our youth group, we would welcome your leadership on 7/05/20, Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. You can meet us at 7300 Ridge Rd. in Harrah down at the dock. You will see the lake when you pull into the driveway. We will need to learn how to tie on a lure for bass and crappie fishing. We will also need to learn to cast, and remove a fish from the hook safely. Please contact Shauna Becker if you would like to help with fishing.

Most of all we need your prayers! These students will be given the space and circumstances to become more aware of God’s love and the love of others in their lives. We can all benefit from times of sabbatical, but we don’t often take that precious time away from our daily routines. When things are different from our normal schedule, we can become uncomfortable and even cranky. We sometimes shy away from unique experiences & even from love itself for various reasons. I ask that you pray for peace for each of these teens as they receive the gifts God & their families have for them.

In love and gratitude,
Shauna Becker

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who has called to check on us. We have been doing well over the past few months. Being very careful when we have to go out and enjoying sitting on our deck. We most likely will not be able to attend right away when church services resume, but we will be watching from home. Love and miss you all!
