A Pastor’s Perspective
Last Sunday, Randy Ross pointed out some of the items the church has received over the years due to the generosity of so many people. The cross over the baptistry, the organ, our pulpit, our electronic sign, and a large contribution that started the Jeanette Clemons Activity Center, to name a few. These gifts are a constant reminder of the connection so many have and have had to this special place.
We recently received a gift from Melissa Mitchell. She also sent us this letter:
“The very best people I know are found at a First Christian Church. My parents, Lyle and Lillian Fry, always made sure that wherever we lived the first order of business was to find a First Christian Church. Starting at an early age, I was able to identify my life as a Christian and God has been with me through all the years.
At this church of Midwest City, my folks jumped in with both feet to give of their talents – from preparing communion to serving on various committees, and even being a pilot for the Vacation Bible School program!
My first encounter with this great church family was to be given a baby shower for my son David by the women of the church, many of whom I did not yet know and they did not yet know me! When the church moved out to Anderson Road, my daughter Jessica was the first to be baptized. My daughter Kathy was asked to use her talents to paint the walls of the nursery classrooms. Steve and I were given the talent of helping my Dad and the committee with the annual golf tournaments for fundraising for the church.
Now I find myself blessed with another talent – inheriting a charitable fund through my late husband Steve and his mother. I can think of no greater purpose than to share it with the First Christian Church of Midwest City. I know the Lord will find many more great ways to bring the joy of His love and caring to the community of this church as it continues to thrive.”
The gift is given in memory of Melissa’s husband, Steve Nutt, and her father, Lyle Fry. It also honors her mother, Lillian Fry, who is still with us. The total of the gift is $56,864.25, and will help to fund several projects, including improving the sound quality in our sanctuary. Many thanks to Melissa, and to the other faithful people along the way who have and continue to use their gifts to make this a great faith community!
