Stewardship Update – Giving Summary

MOBILE MEALS MINISTRY UPDATE: FOOD IS A BASIC NEED

Many of the people in our community are unable to care for themselves and feeding them a hot meal is our way of ministering to them.  Our Ministry currently provides 52 people in our community with a hot meal delivered directly to their door and we do this every Monday, 52 weeks a year.  We project serving over 2700 meals by the end of this year.   Our main service area is SE 29th St. to the South, Sooner Road to the West, NE 23rd St. to the North and Post Road to the East. However, over the past few years our Ministry has expanded to Westminster Road, Anderson Road and more recently an area on Hiwassee Road in Choctaw.

The Mobile Meals Ministry of First Christian Church has been providing hot meals since 1973.  We are in partnership with Area Wide Mobile Meals of Midwest City and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels. Each Church provides meals one day a week. With the  combined effort of our 5 Churches our recipients receive a hot meal Monday through Friday.

The structural support for First Christian Church Mobile Meals Ministry consists of 4 routes.  Each route is served by a driver and a carrier to take the meal to the door. Our cooks are in-charge of menu creation, buying and food preparation. Each cook has 2 to 3 assistants for prep, serving and cleanup. This equals 52 mornings of service by our members/volunteers. This also includes the use of our
volunteers’ personal vehicles for meal delivery.

In December of 2015 we started our Emergency Food Kits and we have continued this tradition every year since.  This year we will be collecting non-perishable food items for these kits starting Sunday, December 11 thru Wednesday December 28.  In the winter months our delivery of meals can be affected by the weather, therefore, these kits provide enough food to each of our recipients for 3 to 4 small meals. We are able, to do our Emergency Food Kits every year because of the generosity of our Church Family. Please help us make our kits a success again this year by donating a few items from the list below.

There will be a collection box in the Narthex marked “Mobile Meals Emergency Food Kits”.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Dottie Tucker at 405-919-4589 or 405-610-6959.

Items Needed:  Canned goods such as soups, stews, ravioli, ramen noodles, macaroni & cheese; canned meats (such as tuna, chicken, or ham); individually packaged peanut butter crackers or cheese crackers, fruit cups, pudding cups, individually packaged cookies, granola bars, Ensure, or any non-perishable food item that can be eaten at room temperature or easily heated.  Please remember some of the dessert items need to be sugar free for our diabetics.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE MOBILE MEALS MINISTRY!
