A Pastor’s Perspective

Jesus called out the religious and political leaders of his day. He tried to relocate their thoughts and actions to reflect the hope and love of kingdom of God for all people, but met resistance. He reminded them to love God, love others, and stop being so pious and judgmental. They didn’t want to hear that.

The change he proposed was so radical and threatening to the status quo that he was put to death on a cross. He called for change. He called for a relocation of the mindset and hearts of God’s people to receive more of the light of God’s love.

For years, I have tried to grow tomatoes. I don’t particularly like tomatoes, but Nancy does. I have mostly tried to grow them in above ground containers, but without much luck. The most productive years have yielded only a few of the red fruits, but none of any size. They have usually been planted around Mother’s Day.

This year, I am trying my hand at a raised garden bed in a place in our back yard that gets much more sun. I also planted the plants in April this year. Last week I harvested a few small tomatoes and a large one. The plants are producing, and it looks like, if all goes well, Nancy will have tomatoes all summer long.

The difference here is change. The plants I purchased back in April were the same plants I have purchased before. Same for the soil. The only difference for this adventure is the container they are growing in, its location, and the amount of sunlight each day they receive.

Aren’t we like that as well? Sometimes we need to change. But change can be hard. We become so accustomed to doing everything the same way that we miss opportunities to grow. There are moments to retain that which is safe and comfortable for us, and there are also times to do things differently and to maybe even step out of our comfort zones!

May God give us the ability to relocate our hearts and minds where we need to, bringing light and bearing more fruit for the reign of God in our world!

Peace,

CWF Group III

Meeting June 27th, 6:00 pm

Group III meets once a month in the evenings, but not always on the same day of the week. During the summer months we usually meet at Mitsy Martin Davis’ or Jamie Benge’s home for food and fellowship by the pool. If you’re not currently part of a CWF group and would like to join us, our June meeting will be held on the 27th at 6:30 pm at Jamie’s house. That address is 10332 SE 51st St, Oklahoma City 73150. Bring a beverage and your favorite snack. Feel free to bring or wear a swimsuit or just come soak your feet. We’ll start our new study in the fall, but that’s yet to be decided.
We hope to see you there!
